Rob Perron

Head Coach

Since the 2014-15 season Catawba College Men's Basketball has been lead by Rob Perron, the 12th men’s basketball coach in school history. Although he becomes Catawba’s 12th head coach, Perron will be just the third man to guide the Catawba Indians since 1960. Since taking over a team that was picked to finished 11th out of 12 in his first season, Coach Perron has turned around the program to finish 10th in the Region in 2015-16 and win the 2019 SAC Tournament Championship, an appearance in the 2nd Round of the NCAA Tournament, and a finish in the National Top 25 Rankings. The 2019 Indians also finished with 25 wins, tied for most in the schools history in NCAA Division 2. Perron has also guided his players to 6 All-Conference awards (Jameel Taylor, Marcell Haskett, Jerrin Morrison, KJ Arrington), the 2019 SAC Defensive Player of the Year (Jameel Taylor), the 2019 SAC Tournament MVP Devin Cooper, and two players in the Top 5 All Time in Career Scoring at Catawba (Jameel Taylor, Jerrin Morrison).

Prior to Catawba, Coach Perron served as associate head coach at Newberry College. Before joining Dave Davis at Newberry, Perron was the Director of Basketball Operations for the Charlotte 49ers from 2006 to 2012. Perron also spent time as an Assistant Coach at Pfeiffer University and as a Head Coach at his alma mater, St. Andrews University. Coach Perron has helped develop 55 players into professionals throughout his career.

Steven Asher

Assistant Coach

Steven Asher recently completed his 3rd season on staff at Catawba College. In the 3 years at Catawba, the Indians have a record of 54-34, the most successful 3 year period for Catawba Basketball in over 15 years. The 2019 SAC Tournament Champion's advanced to the 2nd Round of the NCAA Tournament and finished the season with a Top 25 National Ranking. The 2018-19 team also had the 2nd best win/loss turnaround in all of Division 2 from the 2017-18 season. In addition, 3 different student athletes have earned All Conference honors (Jameel Taylor, Marcell Haskett, Jerrin Morrison, and KJ Arrington), including the 2019 SAC Defensive Player of the Year (Jameel Taylor) and 2019 SAC Tournament MVP, Devin Cooper. The 2019 Indians also finished with 25 wins, tied for most in the schools history in NCAA Division 2.

Asher joins the Catawba Men’s Basketball Staff after spending the 2015-16 season as an assistant coach with the men’s basketball program at Lycoming College, under the tutelage of Head Coach, Guy Rancourt.  In his year with the Warriors, Asher helped the team to an NCAA Tournament appearance and its first MAC Commonwealth title since joining the league in 2008 and guided Nyk King to an All-Conference award.  Before Lycoming, Asher spent three years as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Maryland, working with the 2015 Big Ten Coach of the Year, Mark Turgeon and the first Maryland Basketball team to make the NCAA Tournament in 5 years. Asher also helped guide Dez Wells, Melo Trimble, 2nd Round NBA Draft Pick Jake Layman, and the #5 overall NBA Draft Pick Alex Len, to All Conference awards. Asher also assisted with player development workouts and video editing for former Maryland assistant women’s basketball coach and current assistant coach of the Washington Wizards, David Adkins, working with NBA, WNBA, foreign professional players and collegiate players.

Derrick Wall

Assistant Coach

Derrick Wall recently completed his 1st season with the Catawba Basketball program leading Catawba to the 2nd best win/loss turnaround in all of Divison 2 Basketball. Coach Wall was instrumental in recruiting and developing the roster that led to the 2019 SAC Tournament Championship and a finish in the National Top 25 Rankings. Through Coach Wall's development, Jameel Taylor earned a 1st Team All-Conference and 2019 SAC Defensive Player of the Year honors, Marcell Haskett earned 2019 2nd Team All Conference Honors and All-SAC Tournament honors, and Devin Cooper won 2019 SAC Tournament MVP. The 2019 Indians also finished with 25 wins, tied for most in the schools history in NCAA Division 2.

Coach Wall comes to Catawba following a successful tenure on the Adidas Gauntlet Summer Circuit leading Team Loaded NC to an 88% winning percentage in his two years and a #2 finish in the 2017 Gauntlet Finale. Coach Wall has coached and mentored 30+ players that have gone on to the Division 1 level and several into NBA and professional ranks including: Dennis Smith (NY Knicks/NC State), Bam Adebayo (Miami Heat/Kentucky), Caleb Homesley (Liberty), Jayden Gardner (ECU, 2019 AAC Freshman of the Year), Nate Hinton (Houston, 2019 American Conference All-Freshman Team), Trey Wertz (Santa Clara, 2019 WCC All Freshman Team), BJ Tyson (ECU, 2nd All Time Scoring American Conference history), Darius McGhee (Liberty), Jamarius Burton (Wichita State), Landers Nolley (Virginia Tech), Joel Ntambwe (UNLV), Flo Thamba (Baylor), Qudas Wahab (Georgetown), Jaylen Withers (Louisville), and many others.  Coach Wall was also the Associate Head Coach at Woodside High School in Newport News, VA where he helped lead the team to the District and Regional Championship as well as a state semi-final appearance.

Jermon Marsh

Assistant Coach

Jermon Marsh recently completed his 1st season with the Catawba Basketball program leading Catawba to the 2nd best win/loss turnaround in all of Divison 2 Basketball. Coach Marsh was instrumental in recruiting and developing the roster that led to the 2019 SAC Tournament Championship and a finish in the National Top 25 Rankings. Coach Marsh comes to Catawba following 3 season with Davidson County Community College, where they posted an overall record of 87-13 and went to Elite 8 National Tournament twice. In 2016, the team made it the school’s first Final Four appearance ever. Before his stint at Davidson County Community College, Marsh coached one year at Dallas Christian College in Texas, who finished fifth in the nation at the National Tournament in Missouri. At both colleges he has also served as the Strength & Conditioning Coach. He holds four different certifications in Fitness as well.

Marsh graduated from Bemidji State University in Minnesota with a degree in sports management degree. While at Bemidji, he was a scholarship athlete for three years. He transferred to Warren Wilson College for his senior season and earned All-America honors. After college, Marsh had a brief stint as a professional basketball player
